How to Adjust the Display Brightness in Windows 11

Changing the brightness on Windows 11 is easy, and there are many ways to do it. You can quickly increase and decrease the brightness level from the Action Center but if you want, there's an option to do it from the Settings app and the Mobile Center.

Method 1. Change Brightness Using Action Center

1. Click any of the three icons (Wi-Fi, Sound, and battery) on the taskbar to open the Action Center.

2. The bottom bar here is the brightness. Click or drag anywhere on the brightness bar to change the brightness of your PC.

3. Tap anywhere outside of the Action Center to close it.

Method 2: Change Brightness Using Settings

This is one of the most obvious methods to change something as simple as brightness in Windows 11.

1. Right click on the Start button and click on Settings.

2. In Settings, Select System > Display

3. The brightness slider should now be in front of you. Just adjust it to the brightness level you want and close the Settings app.

Tip: You can quickly access the display settings by opening Window Search first by pressing Windows key + S, then typing Display or Brightness. Click 'Change Brightness Level' from the search results to open Display Settings.

Method 3: From Windows Mobility Center

1. Right click on the Start button and click on Mobile Center.

2. Adjust the brightness from the Display brightness section as desired.

Method 4: Automatically Adjust Brightness Based on the Power Mode

If you’re using a laptop or tablet, the device screen consumes a lot of energy when you are on battery with full brightness. So, Windows 11 provides an option to automatically lower the brightness of your device when you enable the battery saver mode. This, in turn, decreases energy consumption and increases battery life.

1. To enable this option, first, right-click on the Battery icon in the system tray, on the right side of the taskbar, and select Battery saver settings.

2. Alternatively, you can navigate to Settings>System>Power & battery. In the Power & battery window, open the Battery saver settings.

3. Then, turn on the Lower screen brightness when using battery saver toggle. Now, whenever you enable the Battery saver mode, your screen dims itself to conserve battery.

4. If you’re on battery, you click on the Turn on now button next to ‘Battery saver’ to enable the Battery saver mode, immediately

Or, you can also click the Battery saver button in the Action Center to turn on the Battery saver mode.

You can also choose at which percentage you want the Battery Saver mode to turn on automatically. To do that, choose the percentage in the drop-down next to the Turn battery saver on automatically at.

Remember, the Battery saver mode can only be enabled when your device is not plugged in.

And that's it.

These are all the ways you can change the brightness in Windows 11.

Tip: You can also go ahead and enable ‘Nightlight’ on your system to make the screen look yellow and act as a blue light filter. This helps reduce strain on your eyes in low light conditions, especially at night.

A. Turn on Night Light for the Blue Light filter

While we are using it, let's not forget Night Light, a wonderful feature that reduces the intensity of harmful blue light on the screen and turns the colors red, which is easier on our eyes. It's right below the brightness slider.

1. In the Settings, go to System >Display. Then, enable the ‘Night light’ toggle under the Brightness slider.

2. If you want to further customize the Night light feature, click on the Night light option or on the arrow, not on the toggle.

3. You can use the ‘Strength’ slider to adjust the intensity of the warm colors.

4. You can also schedule the night light by turning on the toggle bar next to the Schedule Night Light option under the Strength slider. Then, you can schedule the Night light either between sunset to sunrise or between a specific time.

B. Turn off battery optimization for brightness

Windows 11 introduced a new feature that tries to optimize battery life based on display content and brightness levels. You can find the option by clicking the down arrow next to the brightness slider in Settings > Display

Uncheck the box Help improve battery by optimizing the content shown and brightness.

That is all.
