How to Enable Mouse ClickLock in Windows

Enabling Mouse ClickLock when working on a desktop or laptop computer can make things easier and faster. Once set, ClickLock will lock mouse clicks and allow you to highlight or drag text without holding down the mouse button all the time.

ClickLock can help you use your mouse with ease, especially if you have a problem with your hand that interferes with movement or find it more convenient to not hold down the mouse button. Whatever the reason, here's how to enable Mouse ClickLock.

How to enable Mouse ClickLock through Settings

Enabling Mouse ClickLock through Settings requires just a few clicks.

1. Enter Mouse Settings in Windows Search and click Mouse Settings in Best match.

2. Mouse Settings will open in Bluetooth and devices settings. Scroll down to the Related settings section and click Additional mouse settings.

3. The Mouse Properties window will open.

You will see the ClickLock section in the Buttons tab. Just check the box next to Turn on ClickLock. Then, click Apply > OK. It's done!

How to set ClickLock time in Mouse Settings

When you start using the mouse with the ClickLock function, you may want to make the ClickLock time faster or slower. You can also set how long you need to hold the mouse down to lock the click.

1. To do that, go to Mouse Settings > Additional mouse settings.

2. Then reopen the Mouse Properties window and click Settings in the ClickLock section.

3. A small window will appear with a slider to allow you to set the ClickLock duration to Short or Long. Just use the slider to set your preferred time and click OK.

4. Finally, in the ClickLock section, click Apply > OK.

How to set ClickLock time through Registry Editor

You can also set the exact ClickLock time in seconds. To do that, you will need to use the Registry Editor.

But you should create a restore point before editing the Registry to ensure that it can be restored when something goes wrong. Once done, follow these simple steps:

1. Press the Windows Keys + R keys, type regedit in the navigation bar and click OK or press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

2. Navigate to the Desktop key according to the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

3. Click the Desktop key on the left. You should see the ClickLockTime DWORD on the right.

4. Double-click ClickLockTime to edit the DWORD. Then, under Base, click Decimal and change the Value Data to a shorter or longer interval in milliseconds.

You can set the time between 200 and 2200 milliseconds. The default ClickLock time is 1200 milliseconds.

5. Once done, close Registry Editor and restart your computer.
