How to Install Windows 11/10 From an Android Device

With Windows 11/10 ISO you can create bootable media which can be USB flash drive or DVD. The bootable media can be used as a recovery medium to troubleshoot or perform a clean install of the latest Windows 11/10. Conveniently, you can also install Windows 11/10 from your Android smartphone using DriveDroid - in this post we'll walk you through the steps to do that!

Before we begin, let's take a look at the prerequisites for this process.

What is DriveDroid?

DriveDroid is an Android application that can be used to create installation media by mounting an operating system disk image. DriveDroid allows you to install a variety of operating systems, like Linux distributions, but you can also use it to install Windows 11/10. To use DriveDroid, you must root your Android device.

Magisk is our recommended and easiest method to root your device - but you'll need to back up your Android device as the rooting process involves wiping your device.

How to Install Windows 10 from Your Android Device with DriveDroid

If you don't have root access on your Android device, the rest of this guide won't work properly. DriveDroid requires root access on your device to mount the Windows 10 ISO properly. You will also need root access if you want to install another operating system, such as a Linux distribution.

How to Root Android 11

From here on out, this guide assumes your Android device has root access.

A. Download the latest Windows 11 or Windows 10 ISO

To install Windows 11/10 from an Android device, you'll need a copy of Windows 10. The Windows Media Creation tool is the easiest way to download the latest version of Windows 10.

Go to the Windows 11/10 software download page and select the Download Now tool.

1. Open the Windows Media Creation Tool.

2. Select Create installation media for another PC, then create your Windows 11/10 ISO installation.

3. If you are creating a backup ISO for the PC you are using, you can Use the recommended options for this PC.

4. Click Next, then let the process complete.

After downloading the Windows 11/10 ISO, you need to copy it to your Android smartphone in an easy to remember folder. It's best to copy the files to your Android using a USB cable, as you'll also require a working connection for the rest of the tutorial.

B. Download and configure DriveDroid

1. Download and install DriveDroid.

2. Open DriveDroid. The app will immediately ask for root access which you should Grant.

3. Once the installation is complete, you can run the USB setup wizard to configure the application. Click Setup to get started.

4. It will verify that your device is not blacklisted. Click Proceed, then grant root access to the app.

5. Next, connect your Android device to your PC using a USB cable.

6. You need to choose from the list of systems to handle the USB. Most devices will work with the first available USB system.

7. Finally, open the file manager on your PC and confirm whether your device is mounted as a USB drive or a CD drive. This shows that your device is working fine with DriveDroid. You can close the Wizard and continue with the rest of the tutorial.

If your device doesn't show up at all, go back to the previous page and try other USB systems until you get one that works.

C. Mount the Windows 11/10 ISO in DriveDroid

1.Move the Windows 11/10 ISO file to your device's internal storage or SD card.

2. Launch DriveDroid and press the “+” button at the bottom of the screen.

3. Select Add image from file

4. Name the image and click the magnifying glass icon to select the path of the ISO file. Once done, tap the check mark at the top to save.

5. Tap the newly created entry and select one of the storage options. CD-ROM is suitable in this case.

6. Your Windows image should be mounted now. A message will appear on the phone indicating that the image has been mounted successfully.

7. Finally, restart your PC and boot from the drive where your Windows ISO is installed.

D. Access the Windows Boot Menu

1. Shut down the PC you want to install Windows 11/10 on.

2. Connect your Android device to the PC using a USB cable.

3. Next, power on the PC and boot into BIOS/UEFI by continuing pressing the right key for your system. The right key for your system could be F1, F2, F10, etc. – and it depends on your manufacturer. You may be able to see which key, in the bottom left or right side of your boot screen, when your computer is booting.

4. In the BIOS/UEFI environment, switch to Boot tab.

5. Here you will see Boot Priority which will list connected hard drive, CD/DVD ROM and USB drive if any. You can use the arrow keys or + & – on your keyboard to change the order.

6. Scroll down to find the DriveDroid option, named something similar to Linux File-CD Gadget.

7. Hit Enter.

The Windows 11/10 installation screen will now load, and you can install a clean version of Windows 11/10 on your computer.

That’s it!
