How to Fix Application Error 0xc0000906 on Windows 11/10

Many users have reported experiencing Application Error 0xc0000906 when trying to launch a third-party application on Windows PC. Method 1: Run SFC And DISM Scans

1. Open the command prompt as an administrator. To do that, type cmd in the windows search bar then hold the ctrl + shift keys together and hit enter

3. Copy and paste the following command in the command prompt and hit enter. Or type the following command in the command prompt and hit enter

sfc /scannow

4. It will take a few minutes to execute and complete the process. Do not interrupt the process

5. Once done, copy and paste the following commands one by one into the command prompt and then hit enter

  • Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

  • Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

The above commands analyses the system and check if there are any system inconsistencies and also start the repair process. Hence it might take around 15 and more minutes to compete the execution process, do not interrupt in between

6. Once done, restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.


Method 2: Run the application in compatibility mode with administrator privilege
If you still get the same error, there are chances that you are dealing with compatibility issues, especially with older software. In case the scenario is applicable, you can try running the application in compatibility mode and as an administrator and see if it fixes the error for you. Here are the steps to do that:
1. Firstly, go to the software executable which is throwing the Application Error 0xc0000906, and right-click on it.
2. From the context menu, select the Properties option.
3. Now, inside the Properties window, go to the Compatibility tab.
