Valorant - How To Fix High Ping and Latency Problems

High ping in Valorant is one of the most annoying things you can experience in Riot Games' FPS title, along with lag in the game. High latency not only affects your ability to play properly, but it can also cause error codes and disqualify you from matches. Fortunately, there are several ways to solve your problem. If you are experiencing high ping in Valorant, the first thing you should do is check if Riot Games' servers are down. Sometimes server issues can cause lag, and you should immediately visit the Riot Games Support Twitter account for updates. If there are no problems with the server, here are some fixes you can try if you are experiencing high ping in Valorant.

Solution 1: Reboot your network

Whether you’re on WiFi or Ethernet, one of the easiest and quickest way to solve the network problem is to restart your network. It’ll free up RAM on your router and renew your IP address, which may also fix your high ping issue

Solution 2: Restart the game to fix Valorant high Ping

Whenever you encounter Valorant High Ping and any game errors, you should restart the game before trying any other solutions.

Restarting the game will remove any temporary errors caused by old cache and cookies or other system software that are conflicting with your game software.

All these errors will be cleared after restarting your PC or any other platform you use.

Solution 3: Switch to a more reliable VPN to fix the high Ping effect

If you're using a VPN extension in your web browser that's a problem. You must disable all VPNs and prefer reliable desktop version VPNs to use. And these premium VPNs are available on all devices.

Free VPNs don't let you stream at full speed, they put a limit on the free version, which is not a useful speed for working or playing Valorant.

Solution 4: Performing a Clean Boot to Initialize the Game Again

Clean boot will help you to eliminate the unnecessary applications which are running on the backend.

And shut down any applications which are conflicting with each other and causing Valorant High Ping.

1. Press Windows Keys + R  Open Run and Type MSConfig. Press Enter

2. The System Configuration window will open. Select Services tab

3. Uncheck all the unnecessary service

4. Only check those you need now

5. Now click OK

Now your clean boot is done and the unnecessary services are eliminated and enable you to play Valorant without having a ping spike.

Solution 5: Close Any Unnecessary Applications

If there are too many apps and programs running in the background, then it could eat up your bandwidth causing high ping Valorant. In this case, you need to close these bandwidth-hogging programs in Task Manager.

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open the Task Manager window.

2. In the pop-up window, select the Network tab to sort tasks by bandwidth consumption, and then right-click the bandwidth-consuming task and select End task. After that, you can repeat this step to close all unnecessary apps and programs.

Now, you can relaunch the game and check if the Valorant lag spikes issue gets solved.

Solution 6: Clear DNS Cache and Data to Fix Valorant High Ping & Letency Spike

Since clearing the DNS cache removes all the entries and forces your computer to repopulate those addresses the next time you try accessing those websites. This won’t affect performance and will fix Valorant high ping.

1. Press Windows key + R. Type cmd.exe, and click on OK.

2. Then on the cmd window, enter the following commands:

ipconfig/flushdns

ipconfig/registerdns

ipconfig/release

ipconfig/renew

netsh winsock reset

3. Now restart your PC and check if Valorant packet loss is fixed

Solution 7: Change the DNS Server

Sometimes a DNS server error can provoke the Valorant lag spikes issue. Here you can try changing your DNS server to another one that may improve your ping. For that:

1. Open your Control Panel, and then change the View by type to Category and navigate to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Centre > Change adapter settings.

2. Right-click your current network and select Properties.

3. Navigate to the Networking tab and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click on Properties.

4. Select the Use the following DNS server addresses option, and then set the Preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and Alternative DNS server to 8.8.4.4. After that, click on OK to save the changes.

5. Type cmd in the search box, and then right-click the Command Prompt from the top result and select Run as administrator. In the elevated Command Prompt, type the ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter to clean up DNS cache.

Now, you can restart the game and check if the Valorant high ping issue is gone.

Solution 9: Update Your Network Adapter Driver

An outdated or corrupt network driver can trigger various issues while playing games like “Call of Duty Cold War not connecting to online services”, “Terraria lost connection”, and the one discussed here. To solve the problem, you can try updating the network driver.

1. Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager from the context menu.

2. Expand the Network adapters section, right-click the network driver and select the Update driver option.

3. In the pop-up window, you can update the network adapter driver automatically or manually based on your demands. After selecting the way to update the driver, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.
