Before we walk through the article of creating a folder undeletable in Windows PC, it is necessary to know a few things. Generally, Microsoft Windows operating system has some reserved words such as con, aux, lpt1, lpt2, lpt3 up to lpt9 for folder names and Windows itself use these words for having some essential Windows files and folders which is undeletable and unrenamable. Thus, if you want to create a folder undeletable and unrenamable, then your folder name must be one of these windows reserved names.
Method 1: Create An Inaccessible And Undeletable Folder In Windows
1. First of all, you have to open the Command Prompt. For that, you have to type cmd into the windows search box and from the search results that appear, click on the first option Command Prompt and select Run as administrator option.
2. Once you are in the elevated command prompt window, enter the Drive name like D:, E: or F: where you wish to create the undeletable folder and hit the Enter key.
For instance, Here I’m using E: drive to create an undeletable folder and type E: in the command prompt Windows as shown in the below image.
Important Note: The users can create Undeletable folders only in the non -rooted external drives. For example, they can create the folder in a non-rooted drive such as D, E, F, and G drives. Generally, we install Windows OS in C drive where it contains all the system files so we can’t use C drive for this purpose.
3. Next, you need to type md con\, and hit the Enter key as shown in the screenshot given below.
“Con” is a reserved name, and md = make directory. On the other hand, no folder with Con name can be created or deleted, without using the Command Prompt.
4. Now let’s check whether this worked or not by opening the E: drive on your computer. Here you’ll see a new undeletable folder just created there with the name con.
5. To verify the process, Click on this undeletable folder and press Delete key. Now you will be asked for confirmation, click on the Yes button.
6. Next, a new alert window appears saying that the item cannot be found. Although, if you try for many times, you cannot delete the Con folder and now you can add all the files and folders in this undeletable folder in case if you don’t want anyone to delete or rename it.
In the way, you can protect your files and folders from unauthorized access.
Point to be noted: Whenever you are creating the undeletable folder on Windows computers, you can use any of these Windows reserved words such as aux, lpt1, lpt2, lpt3 up to lpt9. Here you have to add any one of these keywords just after md.
Method 2: Modify The Security Permissions For The Undeletable Folder
In case, if you want to prevent or block someone to access the undeletable folder that you have created on your Windows computer, then you need to perform some tweaks for that you have to follow the steps given below:
1. To deny someone or don’t want others to access your folder, then, you have to right-click on the folder and select Properties option.
2. When the new window appears, then click on the Security tab. In Security, there is an Edit button which helps to change permissions and click on that Edit button.
3. After that, a new popup screen prompts and next, click on the Add button below Group or user names which allows adding a group or username.
4. Now a new dialog box will appear on your screen and in the Enter the object name to select, type Everyone and click OK button.
5. After this step, it will redirect you to the security tab. Now, in the Permission for everyone, you have to tick on the Deny option for Full control, and then Click OK.
But, before you proceed with the above step, you have to make sure that you have selected the Everyone option in the list.
After this process, lastly, click OK and then Apply button.

Therefore, by following the above steps, you can protect the important files from others as well as stop them from deleting those forever.
